Our Investment Philosophy
Our investment philosophy is founded on the basis that client interests must be put first. Thus we are always fully transparent in terms of fees, process and communication with you.
Our business typically caters for two distinct types of client, although we realise of course that sometimes such distinctions merge together.
1. Private Clients
Typically, in our experience, looking for a financial advisor who will guide them in their investment journey, helping to establish the right ‘risk profile’ for their portfolio, considering important lifestyle developments such as buying a home, retirement or college expenses.

2. Institutional Asset Management
Our institutional type clients are typically looking for a specific portfolio mandate, have rules or restrictions on what can be bought and are often looking to either benchmark against an industry benchmark or seeking absolute-return style investment portfolios with limited volatility

We carry out proprietary research into economic variables that have a pronounced impact on market movements and use those to judge the asset allocation strategy for client portfolios. We also undertake more in-depth analysis of individual companies so that our private clients can build up a portfolio of individual companies that they are familiar with.
This graphic illustrates some of the variables that are used in analyzing the broader market landscape and informing the investment decision making process.
This second graphic goes into more detail on the macro economic philosophy that is adopted and illustrates how we make investment decisions.

Our portfolio allocation strategies are built through ETF’s so as to minimise costs and maximise investor diversification. The asset allocation strategy is built with client needs front-and-center so as to ensure tailoring of approach to each client’s long-term investment needs and risk profile.
Fees
Helix is a fee-only fiduciary portfolio manager. Our fees are assessed as percentage of assets under management; and receive no commissions or other incentive to trade or recommend insurance or mutual fund products.
Institutional Portfolio Management
Institutional investors often have specific and unique portfolio constraints. This can involve regulatory restrictions driven by credit lending, restrictions governed by insurance laws and regulations or restrictions imposed by pension laws and regimes.
Such obligations lead to the need to properly understand the regulations and associated dynamics and then build portfolios accordingly. This is something that Helix has considerable experience in administering and providing guidance and counsel to investors on.
We can work with you to design the optimal asset allocation policy, given the constraints imposed upon the mandate and then build the portfolio accordingly with individual securities, funds or a combination thereof.
Whether you be seeking an asset manager for a specific portfolio mandate, seeking guidance on the optimal portfolio allocation given regulatory constraints, or have the need to exit positions from a distressed portfolio or manage the remaining assets of a liquidation estate, Helix is the experienced investment solution for your needs.

Fees and Expenses
Due to the customization of our asset management clients our fees are uniquely customized depending on needs. Thus a liquidator looking for assistance to sell off securities may expect to be charged on a brokerage-fee style basis based on the value of the assets sold.
An insurance company may expect to see a portfolio with an absolute return style and thus wish a low fixed cost with a performance element if the positive return is achieved.
Alternatively a portfolio managing the treasury assets for a financial institution is more likely to be charged a low fixed management fee based on AUM.
